KINGSPORT — The Dobyns-Bennett boys soccer team got its annual Jon Metcalf tournament started off on the right foot with an 8-0 win over Carter on Friday night at Eastman Park.

D-B staged “The Will Arrowood and Sam Garcia Show” — the forwards combining for seven of the Tribe’s eight goals.

“Will is a special player and we know he has that game,” D-B coach Tom LaGuardia said. “It’s a matter of if Will decides to go by people or cut back inside and hold that play.

“Tonight, he played aggressive and he did a nice job sealing on the back post, even when he didn’t have it on his foot. He took advantage of his opportunities.”

Arrowood accounted for four scores, including three straight to close out the first half and give D-B a 4-0 lead at intermission.

Two of Garcia’s three goals came in the second half, and he also recorded an assist on an Arrowood goal

Jerome Jarjoura scored the final D-B goal in the last minute of the game.

The Indians will play Sullivan Central on Saturday at 8 a.m.

In the opening match of the tournament, Jefferson County defeated David Crockett 5-0.

The Patriots got two goals from Edwin Escobar and one apiece from Irvin Garcia and Brayan Morales.

The game started dreadfully for the Pioneers, who notched an own goal in the first two minutes. The Patriots got a corner and the ball went off a David Crockett player on the near post, rolling past goalkeeper Jack Roney.

The Pioneers managed just five shots on the day.

Jefferson County totaled 29 shots with 18 of them on goal.

In the final match of the evening, University High came out victorious over Sullivan Central, winning 6-0.

The championship match will be on Saturday at 4 p.m. following the morning session of games.
