Racers, friends, family and fan gathered at Kingsport Speedway on Tuesday, Feb. 25, to pay their respects to one of the true great local racers of our lifetime, Paul “The Mountain Man” Shull.

Paul began racing in North Carolina in 1956 and remained a full time competitor through the 2019 season at Kingsport Speedway where was still a regular top-5 competitor at the age of 79.

He was preparing to run the 2020 season when he passed away unexpectedly last week.

Those who watched him will never forget his untold number of race wins and many, many track championships; and those who knew him will always cherish the time they spent together

Paul rode some final laps around Kingsport Speedway Tuesday, and took the checkered flag one last time.  A celebration of his life was held at Victory Lane, which will now be named in his honor.
