KINGSPORT — City police are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting at an apartment complex that left a man in serious condition.

According to a release from the Kingsport Police Department, at approximately 4 p.m. Monday officers and detectives responded to Model City Apartments, also known as Stonecrest Apartments, 1000 Stonegate Road, in response to reports of a shooting.

The KPD reported that an investigation by detectives revealed the following:

During an apparent argument outside the P building of the complex, the suspect, who has since been identified as Bryius John Lewis Jr., also known as Drama, 18, Kingsport, fired multiple shots, striking the victim, a 19-year-old male, twice in the lower back and leg.

Prior to the arrival of police, the victim, who was not identified in the release, had already been transported by a private party to a hospital for emergency medical treatment. He remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant, charging Lewis with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault, felony reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

Lewis remains at large, the KPD says, and should be considered armed and dangerous. Lewis is black, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs roughly 175 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who knows his current whereabouts is asked to contact detectives in the KPD Criminal Investigations Division at (423) 229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at (423) 246-9111.
