According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday the department learned of the burglary in the Yuma area. A woman reported that her boyfriend, Joseph “Joe” Hunt, 50, had sent texts indicating he used her car to commit the crime.
Police say her vehicle was later located in Kingsport. Inside were items she had reportedly never seen, with investigators using those unspecified materials to identify the burglary victim. When contact was made with that individual, they confirmed the theft of firearms and ammunition valued at $14,345.
According to an SCSO press release, a tip led investigators to recover the stolen guns at a location in Washington County, Tenn. Warrants have since been obtained for Hunt, charging him with burglary and grand larceny. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the SCSO.
