According to a KPD press release, Macho was a Belgian Malinois acquired by the department in 2008. He was initially assigned to K-9 Handler Mike Burnette and later transferred to K-9 Handler Billy Boyd in 2011. That year, he received the Top Dog award in United States Police Canine Association Region 8.
Throughout his career, Macho maintained certifications through both USPCA and the Narcotic Detector Dog Association. Police report that during his tenure Macho was responsible for countless drug finds and fugitive apprehensions, resulting in numerous arrests.
Macho retired from active duty in 2014. Since then, he enjoyed the more relaxed life of a pet with his former handler, Officer Boyd.
