WISE — Zach Lewis is the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Virginia-Wise’s football team, coach Dane Damron announced Tuesday.

Lewis replaces Klay Koester, who accepted the position of wide receivers coach at Football Championship Series Charleston Southern after last season.

Lewis joins the Cavs’ staff after a year at Alderson Broaddus (W.Va.) as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He previously spent four years at Morehead State, first as receivers coach and video coordinator coach and later as QBs coach and recruiting coordinator.

“After talking with Zach and talking with people about him, there was no doubt that he would be the perfect guy to take over our offense,” Damron said in a news release. “We are on the same page with what we want our offense to be and he brings a great presence to the offensive staff room.”

Lewis graduated from Morehead State in 2014 after starting four years at quarterback. He completed 936 passes for 10,251 yards and 72 touchdowns for the Eagles.

“I’m very excited to be part of the Cavalier family,” Lewis said. “Coach Damron and this staff has done a great job in building such a special atmosphere.”

Virginia-Wise begins its first season as a member of the South Atlantic Conference in the fall.
