Volunteer High School junior Ellie McLain recently attended the Washington Leadership Training Institute in Washington D.C. where she met with Sen. Marsha Blackburn and discussed the importance of Career and Technical Education.
In September each Hawkins County school hosted a Bus Driver Appreciation Day, giving students an opportunity to say thanks.
The Hawkins County Spelling Bee came down to a couple of Church Hill students Thursday afternoon, but in the 13th round Church Hill Middle's Abby Fisher proved that her spelling skills weren't in need of “Rehabilitation”.

TVA employees showed students how to conduct and measure tests for water quality, and they checked the quality of the water from Cherokee Lake, measuring the oxygen level and ph level to see if it could support life.

The attorney for a Hawkins County boy who was arrested with a gun at Cherokee High School in March has filed a motion in Chancery Court asking that several school officials be jailed for contempt of court for allegedly not allowing the boy to attend classes Monday. Criminal charges were dismissed against the boy this past June.
Hawkins County Schools have 90 school bus routes, and heading into the 2018-19 school year they were 10 drivers short. Less than two weeks from the start of the 2019-20 school year the school system is in a lot better shape.

Cherokee principal Thomas Floyd had been named to replace Wes Smith as Hawkins County Schools’ high school and middle school supervisor. As of Tuesday there were five applicants to replace Floyd as principal.
