The nonprofit organization announced Wednesday that it has launched a website for the first time in its history. It’s also preparing to host a new event, a homeless brunch, Saturday.
Hunger First’s new website — www.hunger-first.org — will allow visitors to donate, discover the organization’s history, learn about programs, sign up for newsletters and view testimonials from satisfied clients.
Built by Shepherd Media Services, the site will become the hub for online activity for the organization. Relevant and interesting content will be posted once a week to keep people updated on what the nonprofit is doing and who it’s helping.
“This is the first website in the 20-year history of Hunger First,” said Michael Gillis, executive director. “We wanted a website to allow our clients and donors to get to know us and provide a safe, secure spot for donations.”
Hunger First, located at 829 Myrtle St., will host a brunch for the homeless Saturday at 11 a.m. Led by Vanessa Carillo, several women came together to make the event happen.
Depending on the success of the brunch, the nonprofit might host more in the future.
“Even if the homeless aren’t hungry, we want to introduce ourselves to them,” Gillis said. “By inviting them to a brunch, it gets them to open up. Hopefully, we’ll get a lot here.”
