Why: They were having a “U.S. Mail: Not for Sale” rally supporting U.S. House Resolution 993 that was part of a national move orchestrated by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), which is affiliated with the American Federation of Labor and and Congress of Industrial Organizations. A companion Senate bill also has been introduced. The House resolution now has 219 cosponsors, according to the NALC.
NALC believes the Trump administration is considering privatizing the U.S. Postal Service.
Who would be affected? NALC believes businesses and consumers would be affected by the move. The U.S. Postal Service says it is the centerpiece of the $1.4 trillion mailing industry, which employs more than seven million Americans in the private sector.
