Once awakened, Eric J. Bradford, 27, reportedly jumped out a window, ran away and later fought with police. Though records state no potential reasons for his actions, he allegedly had a syringe in his possession.
According to a Kingsport Police Department incident report, the unexpected houseguest was reported at about 7:30 p.m. A 25-year-old female resident arrived home to find Bradford — a stranger — asleep in her bed. She then called her boyfriend to see if he had granted anyone permission to sleep at their house and was told that he had not.
The boyfriend then arrived home and woke Bradford up. It was then that Bradford, whose address is listed as the adjacent Dale Street, allegedly darted out of the residence via a back window.
When police arrived on the scene, they found the boyfriend chasing Bradford. An officer caught up with Bradford in an alley off Dale Street, where both fell to the ground. Following a brief struggle, Bradford was handcuffed and a syringe cap was found allegedly in his possession, and a hypodermic needle was located on the ground at the site of the scuffle.
Bradford was jailed on charges of aggravated burglary, evading arrest, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is alleged to have provided police with a false name initially, netting an additional charge of criminal impersonation. Bradford also had an active warrant in Washington County for failure to appear.
