THP investigating double fatality in Hawkins involving pickup and motorcycle

CHURCH HILL — Two women were killed Tuesday afternoon on Carters Valley Road near Church Hill when a dirt bike reportedly traveled from a yard onto the roadway and into the path of an oncoming pickup.

According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, at about 3:45 p.m. Mavis Feagins, 28, of Church Hill was driving a Honda CRF 100S dirt bike with passenger Heather Brasswell, 28, of Surgoinsville in a residential area on Carters Valley Road just north of Church Hill. 

The THP stated that the motorcycle traveled through a yard at 4531 Carters Valley Road near the Morning Star Road intersection and onto the roadway in the path of an eastbound 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup driven by Terry R. Larkins, 67, of Church Hill.

Feagins and Brasswell suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision. 

Neither Larkins nor his passenger, Larry Larkins, 76, of Church Hill, was injured.

The Carters Valley VFD and Church Hill Rescue Squad responded to the scene.

The THP stated that neither victim was wearing a helmet.
