During the Sept. 24 commission meeting, commissioners voted to have the mayor appoint the committees, despite the fact that Lee had opted to be chairman of the commission.
Commission rules had previously dictated that the chairman appoint the committees.
When asked Sept. 24 if he would abide by the tradition of placing one commissioner per district on each committee, Lee said he would try but couldn’t make that promise.
“I just tried to match up everybody’s qualifications with the committee,” Lee told the Times News Wednesday. “It’s a tough job, and I hope everybody is happy with it. Of course, nothing says we can’t change things around next year if people want to switch around.”
Lee noted that some commissioners presented him with a resume, which he said was helpful in determining the strengths of each member.
“I talked to quite a few of them, and I think most of them were pretty happy with what they got,” Lee added. “I think it’s going to work out really good. I think we’ve got them matched up pretty good, but nothing is perfect. I actually did get a few resumes in, and that’s a good thing.”
He added, “A lot of these new guys we don’t know, and of course we talked to most of those guys. Most everybody is willing to jump in and do whatever it takes.”
The commission will be asked on Oct. 22 to confirm Lee’s appointments.
