Thomas Walker and Castlewood picked up big wins on the high school gridiron Friday night, but Union suffered its first loss of the season.

CASTLEWOOD 38, NORTHWOOD 6

In Saltville, Castlewood racked up 395 total yards and held Northwood (1-4) to 162 yards.

Candler Dudley led the Blue Devils (3-2) with 119 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries. Jeremiah Allen added 64 yards on 11 carries, and Collen Dudley added 60 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Gavin Monk led the defensive effort with seven tackles, including three for a loss.

Castlewood is at home this Friday for a Cumberland District contest against Twin Springs.

THOMAS WALKER 44, HARLAN, Ky. 26

In Harlan, Kentucky, Thomas Walker (4-1) rolled behind Kenny Ball, who lit up the rushing stats with 223 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries against Harlan (1-5). Dalton Langley finished with 100 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries for the Pioneers.

Thomas Walker hosts Hancock County this Friday night.

PAINTSVILLE Ky. 21, UNION 14

In Big Stone Gap, Paintsville escaped Bullitt Park with an ugly win that featured 19 total penalties — several for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Mason Polier led Union (5-1) with 138 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. John Phelps threw a touchdown for Paintsville (4-2), and Harris Phelps had a touchdown pass and the game-winning touchdown run with 8:30 left to play.

With 2:28 remaining, Paintsville fumbled away the ball at the Bears’ 7-yard line. Union moved to the Paintsville 11 with 28 seconds left, but an interception at the 3 sealed the Tigers’ win.

Union hosts Ridgeview on Friday night in a key Mountain 7 District contest at Bullitt Park.
