Cosby’s Leia Groat made the go-ahead layup with 1:40 left on the clock and the Lady Eagles (26-5) outscored the Lady Highlanders 7-0 down the stretch to win going away, 48-42 on Monday night at Sullivan North.
Cloudland — after trailing for most of the game — hit a 3-pointer with eight seconds left by Heaven Caraway to give the Lady ’Landers a 33-32 lead going into the fourth.
However, powered by Braylon Megaha’s game-high 18 points and Groat’s 15, Cosby fought back and moved into the final on Thursday at 6 p.m. against North Greene. The Lady Huskies routed Greenback 52-33 in the first semifinal.
Senior Stacia Wilson finished with 12 to lead Cloudland (23-8).
Elizabethton 48, Grainger 41
ELIZABETHTON — Eric Wilson had a great lob for a momentum-changing Nico Ashley dunk, and the Cyclones pulled away to beat the Grizzlies in a Region 1-AA quarterfinal at Treadway Gym.
The Cyclones (23-6) advanced to the regional semifinals to face Johnson County on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Happy Valley.
Ashley’s dunk was part of a furious run that allowed Elizabethton to pull away from a 33-33 tie heading into the fourth quarter. Ashley finished with 10 points.
Jeb Hurst led Grainger (17-13) with 15 points. Luke Jones added 12.
Johnson County 62, Chuckey-Doak 47
AFTON — Blake Atwood scored a game-high 22 points, including going 8-of-10 from the free-throw line, and 12 rebounds to lead the Longhorns over the Black Knights.
Gavin Reece finished with 15 points, including a pair of clutch 3-point shots, for Johnson County, which also got 13 points and four steals from Zach Eller. Troy Arnold added five rebounds and five assists, also helping hold talented Chuckey-Doak post Ethan Palazzo to six points.
Jordan Morelock paced the Black Knights with 16 points. Nicholas Jennings scored 11 and Alex Maupin added 10.
Greeneville 71, Unicoi County 68
GREENEVILLE — Greeneville hit five free throws in the final three seconds and advanced to a semifinal meeting with Sullivan South.
Jaevon Gillespie had a game-high 28 points for the Greene Devils (20-10). Gillespie hit 10 of 12 free-throw attempts, including 7 of 9 in the fourth quarter.
Brock Thompson poured in 22 points to lead the Blue Devils (9-24) and Gavin Casey added 12.
