WISE — Friday’s Cumberland District boys basketball tournament championship game between Eastside and J.I. Burton was not much different from the previous three games involving the teams.

It was a physical, hard-played game from start to finish with a dramatic finish.

And for the second time in the four meetings, they had to play extra basketball to decide the outcome.

This time around, it took two overtime periods before the game was decided as Eastside took an 85-80 win at the Virginia-Wise Prior Convocation Center.

It was the third time in four meetings that Eastside won and the second time in a row that the game was decided in overtime.

Both teams advanced to next week’s Region 1D tournament. Eastside will host Northwood in Tuesday’s quarterfinals. Burton will travel to Honaker.
