Lady Blue Devils ambush 'Pack in Mountain 7 matchup

CLINTWOOD — Days after taking down one of the Mountain 7 District girls basketball front-runners, Gate City did it again.

Powered by 31 points from Sarah Thompson, the Lady Blue Devils knocked off host Ridgeview 61-58 on Tuesday, adding that win to their victory over Abingdon on Saturday.

Gate City (14-6, 7-4) pulled into a third-place tie with the Lady Wolfpack (15-6, 7-4). They trail league leader Wise Central (17-4, 10-1) and the Lady Falcons (15-6, 9-2) in the standings.

Jaden Fullen added 14 points and Macy Mullins scored 11 for the Lady Blue Devils.

Bailey Frazier racked up 21 points, seven rebounds and six steals for the Lady Wolfpack. Brooklyn Frazier contributed 14 points.

Twin Springs 47, Rye Cove 35

NICKELSVILLE — The Lady Titans topped their Scott County rivals behind 11 points from Baylie Compton.

Grace Rhoton scored 14 points and Kayleigh Sloan had 11 for the Lady Eagles.

John Battle 58, Lee 53

BRISTOL, Va. — Bethany Smith fired up 17 points and Maggie Deel added 12 to help the Lady Trojans hold off the Lady Generals and earn their first Mountain 7 win of the season.

Kandace Quillen racked up 21 points for visiting Lee.

Sullivan Central 55, Unicoi County 30

BLOUNTVILLE — The Lady Cougars kept their Three Rivers Conference record spotless with the easy win over the Lady Blue Devils.

Abbey Crawford led the way with 18 points and Peyton Sams chipped in 14 for regular-season champion Sullivan Central (18-10, 11-0).

Daniel Boone 58, Volunteer 44

GRAY — The Lady Trailblazers (19-9, 7-4) pulled away with a 12-2 run and picked up the Big 7 win on homecoming.

Jaycie Jenkins scored 14 of Boone’s 25 third-quarter points to erase a five-point halftime deficit.

Kenady Knittle paced Volunteer (7-20, 2-9) with 15 points and Bryna Minton chipped in 10, nine of them in the first half.

Unaka 50, Sullivan North 35

KINGSPORT — Myah Parlier fired up 24 points for the Lady Rangers in their Watauga Valley Conference win over the Lady Golden Raiders.

Lily Crawford racked up 17 points to lead Sullivan North, which plays University High on Thursday.

Sullivan East 51, Johnson County 40

MOUNTAIN CITY — Haylee Grubb scored 18 points to lead the Lady Patriots past host Johnson County.

Kylee Wolfe added 13 points for Sullivan East (13-16, 4-7 Three Rivers Conference).

East opened the fourth quarter with a three-point play by Grubb, a 3-point shot by Wolfe and layups by Riley Nelson and Grubb for a 10-0 run. The Lady Longhorns (10-14, 3-8) never were closer than six the rest of the way.

Emmy Miller had 14 points and Taylor Cox 12 for Johnson County.

Science Hill 59, Elizabethton 46

JOHNSON CITY — Alasia Smith had 22 points and a couple of key steals for the Lady Hilltoppers (24-3), who fought off the Lady Cyclones (5-19) for the non conference win.

Erin Egerbrecht contributed 11, Jeila Greenlee 10 and Symantha Fugate nine for Science Hill.

Kaylen Shell paced the Lady Cyclones with 21 points and McKendra Norris scored 10.

Cedar View Christian 50, Clinch 46

EIDSON — Jenni Droke scored 20 points to go with seven steals to push the Lady Seahawks to the nonconference win.

Brooklyn Derrick compiled 12 points, 11 blocks, 18 rebounds and 10 steals for Cedar View.

Courtney Nichols piled up 24 points for Clinch and Jasmine Lyons collected two 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.

BOYS

Gate City 68, Ridgeview 49

CLINTWOOD — The Blue Devils knocked down 12 shots from 3-point range and kept their Mountain 7 record spotless.

Drew Vermillion had five of the 3-pointers on his way to 15 points and Bradley Dean sank four in scoring his team-high 20 for Gate City (18-3, 11-0). Jon Compton finished with 11 points in the win.

Gabe Counts blazed in 27 points for the Wolfpack (10-11, 3-8).

Rye Cove 35, Twin Springs 26

NICKELSVILLE — Senior Chase Love accounted for 27 his team’s 35 points in the Cumberland District win.

Justin Reed was tops for the Titans with 14 points.

Johnson County 74, Sullivan East 58

MOUNTAIN CITY — Blake Atwood piled up 36 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to power the Longhorns to their 17th consecutive win.

Johnson County is tied with Elizabethton atop the Three Rivers with 10-1 league marks.

Johnson County nailed 10 3- pointers, getting four apiece from Atwood and Gavin Reece. Reece finished with 14 points, Lucas Phillips totaled 12 points and Zach Eller amassed six steals.

Trey Lowe had 15 points for the Patriots, converting three of their eight 3-pointers. Dylan Bartley and Dayne Davis added 12 points apiece.

Daniel Boone 56, Volunteer 39

GRAY — The Trailblazers (11-11, 6-5 Big 7) held the Falcons (6-22, 2-9) scoreless in the first quarter, going up 11-0 after one. Chad Heglar poured in 11 of his game-best 15 points in the first half.

Dakota Hicks broke through for Volunteer with a bucket 31 seconds into the second period. Chance Johnson led the Falcons with 14 points, all in the second half.

Elizabethton 69, Science Hill 65

JOHNSON CITY — The Cyclones held off a furious Hilltoppers rally behind 25 points from Nico Ashley.

Elizabethton (19-5) earned its first season sweep of Science Hill (13-15) since 2014.

Parker Hughes scored 12 points and Bryson Rollins had 10 for the Cyclones.

Cedar View Christian 68, Clinch 50

EIDSON — Nick Rose scored 22 points, Andrew Trent added 17 and the Seahawks outgunned the Wildcats.

Cedar View Christian forced Clinch into 26 turnovers.

Zach Prow racked up 20 points for the Wildcats.
