K-Mets batters turn tables, pound Twins in series finale

KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Mets ended the Elizabethton Twins’ winning streak rather abruptly Monday night.

The K-Mets unleashed a six-run third inning on their way to a 14-4 win over the Twins in Appalachian League action at Hunter Wright Stadium.

Kingsport (14-11) moved back within two games of West Division-leading Elizabethton (16-9) with a victory that ended the Twins’ seven game winning streak.

MORE HITS AND WALKS

The teams combined to score 59 runs on 71 hits over their three-game series.

In Monday’s win, the K-Mets’ 14 runs came courtesy of 10 hits, 14 walks and three Elizabethton errors.

Raul Beracierta provided a bulk of the offense for Kingsport with his three hits and four RBIs, including a three-RBI triple in the third inning.

Phil Capra drove in three runs for Kingsport with one hit and two sacrifice flies.

The K-Mets also got a two-run home run from Shervyen Newton in the fifth inning plus two hits from Gavin Garay.

TWINS POWER AT THE PLATE

Elizabethton also pounded out 10 hits on the night.

Chris Williams and Alex Robles had two apiece along with an RBI, and Yunior Severino and Michael Helman each added an RBI for the Twins. Ryan Jeffers also finished with two hits.

PITCHING IN

Kingsport’s Eric Villanueva (1-0) was the winner after allowing one hit over the final 1 2/3 innings.

Starting pitcher Pedro Garcia (1-2) took the loss for the Twins.

UP NEXT

Following Tuesday’s league-wide off day, the K-Mets hit the road for a three-game series at Princeton.
