Mathews and Adams wedding

Dalena Joyce Adams of Gate City, Va., and Damean Mathews of Tazewell, Va., were married Oct. 4, 2015, at MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn. Richard Smith officiated at the 6:30 p.m. ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Deborah and Gary Adams of Gate City, and the granddaughter of Mamie Adams and the late J.T. Adams of Gate City and the late Norma Jean Thompson of Fort Blackmore, Va. Dalena was named in memory of her aunt, the late Joyce Juanita Thompson George of Atlanta, Ga.

The groom is the son of Debbie Mathews of Tazewell, and the grandson of Phyllis Mathews and the late Calbert Mathews of Tazewell.

The bride, dressed in a gown by David’s Bridal in Johnson City, was given in marriage by her parents and escorted to the altar by her father.

Kim Moore of Big Stone Gap, Va., was matron of honor. Ashley Tuttle of Leesburg, Va., was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Makayla Gamble of Gate City, Hannah McNew of Gate City, Sarah Yates of Wise, Va., and Victoria Gilbert of Weber City, Va. Aubrey Love Moore of Big Stone Gap was flower girl.

Joseph Coleman of Tazewell served as best man. Groomsmen were Joshua Stiltner of Tazewell, Ryan Bedwell of Wytheville, Va., Bryan North of Tazewell and Mario Jaramillo of Gate City. Grayson Drake Moore of Big Stone Gap was ring bearer.

A reception was held at The Cattails Ballroom at MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center.

Photography was provided by Leslie Lockhart of Sweetly Vintage Photography. Flowers were by The Potter’s Shed, and the couple’s wedding cake was made by The Family Bakery in Gate City.

The bride graduated from Gate City High School in 2011 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies from The University of Virginia’s College at Wise in 2015. She is employed by the Heart of Appalachia Tourism Authority.

The groom graduated from Tazewell High School in 2009 and graduated summa cum laude from Southwest Virginia Community College before receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English literature with a minor in communications studies from The University of Virginia’s College at Wise in 2015. He is employed by Mountain Empire Community College’s Wampler Library.

Following a wedding trip to Gatlinburg, the couple resides in Norton, Va.
